  • Lost Passport Complicated Situation

    The facts:
Came here in 1967 as a 2 year old with my mother on her passport (Indian)
    Received Green Card in 1967
    Received Indian Passport in 1972
Went to India ONCE in 1973 only.
    Never traveled with passport again
Lost passport and do not have a copy
I still have the passport number and know that it was issued in New York
I have no residence in India, cannot file a police report in India that the passport was lost, and would like to get a passport now.

    How do I do that?

I posted this once before in 2008 but only one response.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
If the PP was lost outside India then why would you file a report in India? Do it where it was lost. The steps for lost passport cases are listed on Travisa. Do the research.

Travisa does not answer the question

`Travisa instructions simply say to include copied pages from the expired passport and do not address lost passport.

Copy of first three and last two pages of the last Indian passport held, or any document that provides sufficient evidence that you held Indian Citizenship, such as:

A notarized copy of educational certificate issued by an institution in India and land ownership certificate by which eligibility may be reasonably ascertained, OR
A duly notarized affidavit to that effect, OR
A copy of an Ancestral Nativity Certificate issued by an Indian official or magistrate with sufficient authority to confirm Indian origin of the applicant.

The decision of whether to accept this type of document as proof of your Indian citizenship will be made by the Consular Officer and will be final in such cases.

If you do not have an Indian passport and you are applying for OCI on the basis that your parents and/or grandparents were Indian nationals, then you must enclose the following documents:

Your birth certificate (in which your parent's name is mentioned) is required. If you are applying as the grandchild of an Indian national, then you must submit your birth certificate as well as your parent's birth certificate. All submitted birth certificates must show the parent's names clearly so that it establishes the relationship with your parents and grandparents, AND
Copy of your parent/grandparent's Indian passport, OR
Copy of your parent/grandparent's domicile certificate issued by the competent authority, OR
Copy of your parents OCI cards, OR
Any other document that provides sufficient evidence of your parent/grandparent's Indian citizenship, such as a notarized copy of school certificate and a land ownership certificate by which eligibility may be reasonably ascertained. The decision of whether to accept this type of document as proof of your parent/grandparent's Indian citizenship will be made by the Consular Officer and will be final in such cases.

Proof of Renunciation of Indian Citizenship:
If the applicant has already renounced Indian citizenship, one of the following must be produced as proof:

A certificate of renunciation issued by a Consulate of India or,
Your cancelled Indian passport with stamp stating the passport is canceled due to obtaining US (or any non Indian country) citizenship.

If the applicant has NOT renounced their Indian citizenship, or cannot show proof, the following must be provided:

Two (2) copies of the completed Renunciation Form
        Copy of your naturalization certificate
        Most recent Indian passport.
If you do not have your most recent passport you must provide an Affidavit of Loss and either a copy of your birth certificate or a school leaving certificate.
Copies of the first three pages and the last two pages of the most recent Indian passport.
There will be a separate renunciation fee automatically calculated on the Order Form depending the date of naturalization:
Naturalized before June 1, 2010: $20.00 renunciation fee
Naturalized on or after June 1, 2010: $175.00 renunciation fee

If the most recent Indian passport is retained for more than 3 years after acquisition of citizenship of another country, a penalty of $250.00 will be automatically calculated on the Order Form except where the most recent Indian passport expired before January 1, 2005. In addition, a penalty of $250.00 will be charged for each case of misuse of the Indian passport for travel after 3 months of acquisition of citizenship of another country subject to a maximum penalty of $1250.00.

They prepared the affidavit for me and completed the full application including sending the application to High Commission of India and collecting OCI when it was ready. I received Visa on my passport and OCI certificate within 3 WEEKS!! I was able to travel to India without any problems or complications.

Thanks to PINDORIA SOLICITORS!! I will definitely recommend to anyone, they are based in Stanmore, very friendly, helpful and provide excellent service.

In which state you are living right now,so that you can find out which Indian embassy office will process your renunciation application. Then did you get citizenship of US.Because still there are few people who just have their GREEN CARD and they didnt get their US citizenship because they dont know Enghlish and fail to appear in test.Anyways did you get US citizenship.Do you have any idea that from which state or city your parents made your Indian passport.(As you said you have passport number.).I am not an agent but still i helped many family friends to fill out their renunciation applications.

"I still have the passport number and know that it was issued in New York." You still have passport number(which passport number you are talking about here(indian or US)As you said you came here with your mother on her Indian passport and how come Indian passport is issued in NewYork.
Dont make it complicated.Simply explain these:

                1) Did you come to USA on your passport,If yes then do you have Indian passport number or any photocopy.
2)If you had your own Indian passport in 20th century then do you have any information from which city your parents got it.(Issued place)
3)In which state you are right now.
4)If you are US citizen and You had green card then do you have photocopy of your green card or else you can call US immigration services that will provide you a proof that you entered in US legally (only thing you have to provide some information thats on your green card like alien number or A#) I dont know what it called in 20th century.
5)Then you need to make an affidavit for loss of Indian passport(i will send you one link later on),get it notarized.
First provide the above information and keep it simple and clear.
