  • travel with < 6 mos on passport, valid visa

Hi, I am having a hard time finding answers to these questions on the Indian embassy site. We are travelling to India in January, returning in February. My passport expires in July, just a few days shy of 6 months after going in to India, and 4 1/2 months after our return to the states. I was told by the Singapore embassy that we can not disembark in Singapore and go through immigration in this case (6 months additional validity on passport is required). 2 questions?

Will we be okay going in and out of India in this case, or does Indian immigration also require 6 months validity on your passport?

Also, if I renew my passport prior to our trip to be safe, do I need to pay the fees to have my visa transferred to the new passport, or can I travel with both old and new to show my valid visa?

    Thanks for your help!

    1. Don't know about Singapore but you can enter India or U.S. in this situation.

    2. Just carry both the passports.
