Do I need to send my cancelled passport for OCI (Renounciation of Citizenship)

Do I need to send my cancelled passport to for OCI to prove that I renounced Citizenship right after my US naturalization in 2004? Or, can I just send a copy of the stamped pages?

You will need to send the actual Indian passport.
