Passport renewal - Both spouses

Both me and my spouse have to renew our passport. Can we send both our applications in the same mail? Also can we just include one return envelope for both of us?

We also need to add each other's name in the Spouse Name field and I also need to get ECNR check.

I kept mailing SFO consulate, but they are not replying.
Does anyone know anything about this?

What is the problem in sending separate to avoid any confusion and possible mix up?

We both need to add Spouse's name in the Spouse name field. For that Spouse's original passport needs to be sent. So I need my wife's original passport along with my application and she also needs mine along with her application. So I was thinking if its OK if we send both our cases together.
