  • Help needed - PIO to OCI - Less documents to submit?

Hello - My wife and I currently have PIO cards and would like to convert them to OCI. A couple of quick questions

    - Copy of birth certificate - Since we currently have US Passports, do we still need to submit copy of birth certificates?

    - Copy of naturalization certificate - what is this referring to? Is a copy of our US passport sufficient?

    - Proof of Indian Origin - Is sending our PIO card sufficient here?

    - Proof of renunciation of Indian citizenship - I am guessing we did this when applying for the PIO card. Do we need to do this again?

    Thanks much for your help.

The handling of all OCI / PIO Card related issues have been outsourced to TRAVISA OUTSOURCING. Go to their web site and you will find that the system drives and shows all requirements.

--> Copy of Birth Certificate --> This is being asked for those individuals born OUTSIDE of INDIA. Do you qualify for that?

--> Copy of Naturalization Certificate --> If you have become US Citizens thru Naturalization you should have the Certificate and they are askign for a copy of that certificate. Copy of US Passport is NOT sufficient EVEN THOUGH you would be sending that also.

--> Proof of Origin --> copy of your last held INDIAN Passport

--> Original PIO Card is being asked for.

--> Renunciation Certificate --> If you have renunciated earlier you should have a certificate. Send a copy OR Copy of your last held Indian Passport if it shows a cancellation stamp. If you have renunciated once that is it. They just need some proof. Anyway you can not renunciate the citizenship twice!
