Birth Place mismatch in passport

I have one letter mismatch in birth place on passport. I need to get it corrected.

Currently my visa is expired but i have i-94 valid till next year. i have few questions before correction

1) if i apply for correction will it affect my status in US ?
2) will they give me new passport with new passport number ?
3) Do i need to transfer my visa from old passport to new passport ? or do i need to get new i - 94 issued ?

please help.
