  • Why is my OCI processing so slow?

    Hello Everyone:
    Here are my details:
I have applied to NY Consulate.
    documents completed online: 04/30/2012
Order form received and payment processed: 05/09/2012
Documents prepared to go to Embassy: 05/11/2012
    documents dispatched to embassy: 05/16/2012
    Documents received by Consulate: 05/16/2012
The tracker at Travisa says "Pending approval of the Government of India"

I have seen posts that they have even received the OCI by a month or so.
Problem is I am leaving for India on June 30th
Can one of you gurus tell me whether I should abort the process and go for Tourist Visa ?

    Thank you very much
    divijan

Did you check the status? I think you would get it before June 30th.

My experience was with Washington DC Indian Embassy. I did receive my OCI card in 29 days (start to finish).

You should get yours in time for your June 30th travel.

Thanks Milli, Raju, Keeping my fingers crossed. I did check the Travisa website and had posted the details earlier. Is there a way, I can check what is happening at GOI (Government of India) OCI center?
        Thanks

            Thanks Milli,
Here is my application status at GOI:-

            Application Status
            Photo/Signature at Mission : Scanned On 17-MAY-2012
Registration Status at Mission : UnderProcess
            Documents Printing Status On
Dispatched From MOIA (OCI ): On NOT DISPATCHED
Documents Received at NEW YORK CGI NOT YET

The last row, says "NOT YET". Are they referring to documents 'not received' at GOI or 'not received' at NY Consulate?

            Thanks very much,

That line tells you the date when NY CGI got the documents back from MoIA.

I am glad that my OCI has been Granted today, and is being printed .
                  Q about the passport process:-
When the Consulate requests my passport, Can I hand over the passport in person and expect them to return the same day or am I supposed to send it over only through mail ?
                  Thanks

As far as I know Travisa does not allow handing over of Passport personally. You will get a mail from Travisa asking you to send in the PP. The message will also contain a bar code. You will be asked to cut out the bar code from the message, affix on the outside of the envelope and send it in.

They should already have a 'reply back' envelope that you sent earlier and it will be used to send the PP back to you.
