Help needed in the below situation for applying a new passport from India

My Uncle's name is say Mr. A.B.C.xyz
But his daughter has entered his name as Mr. A.abc (say the pet name) with which he is known among his friends....

In her DOB (Date Of Birth) certificate the name is as Mr. A.B.C.xyz
but in her 10th (S.S.C) and other academic Certificates it is mentioned as Mr. A.abc

How should she proceed in this case for applying a new passport.

It is better to go with the birth certificate name.
