I am an Australian citizen, currently living in India and I am going to apply for a PIO card. My father was born in India and has a PIO card, although he is an Australian citizen. So therefore I am eligible to get a PIO card based on him having one.
However I have a few questions and concerns regarding the process of application.
1. How long does it take to process the application and actually get the PIO? On this website it says 2 to 4 weeks but I've heard that it takes much longer.
2. Do I have to submit my original Australian Passport along with the Application? In one section it said no, in another it said yes.
3. I need to have proof of address in India. Would a signed letter from the chairman of the local area be usable? Since he has a government position? I could get it done on stamp paper and get it notarized.
4. Is there anything in particular I need to be aware of when submitting my application? The fee is nearly 20,000 rupees so I can't afford to get it wrong. I would be closest to the Delhi consulate so that is where I'd submit the application.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kesava
