Hello everyone,
I am going through a really hard time. Few days back I found that my husband has been cheating on me by calling *******. He also used to hit me every now and then without a reason. He used to hit me so badly that I used to have blood clots on my face, he also used to kick me in my stomach. I took everything and did everything for him. He just used to sit at home and I used to work hard and pay for food, rent, everything. I also took his hitting because I thought that he was loyal. Since I came to know that he is not even loyal, I can't take it anymore. He is a monster.
He is a US green card holder and I am here on F1 student visa (Right now on OPT). Our marriage is registered in India but not in the United States. He wanted me to come here on F1 visa without showing that we are married because he wanted me to work and feed him. If I would have come on his basis, I would have been his dependent and I couldnt have worked, that's why he didn't allow me to do it. When I applied for F1 visa from India, I showed that I am single even though my marriage was registered in India.
Now I really want to divorce him (I don't think he is ready to leave me). But I have all the proof about everything he has done to me. I called all of his friend and made them tell me about his cheating, couple of friends admitted that they knew that he has been cheating on me. He also used to hit me in front of our friends, so there are many people who knows that how badly he used to hit me.
If anyone can please tell me how should I apply for a divorce by not going to India. Can I get a divorce from United States only, without going to India. How long does it usually takes? will it affect my visa status as I didn't show that I was married to him in India before coming here on F1?
I would really appreciate your help if you can explain the complete divorce procedure because I can't stay with this monster any longer.
