Can I get married again in India if I am already married in USA

I am a F1 student in USA. If I get married here to a US citizen and then if things don't work out, go back to India without divorcing her, can I marry someone else over there in India?

On a serious note, I know Indians who were married again(without divorcing spouse), however it was just a religious ceremony, with the Pandit, no signing of documents. Its not a legal marriage.
