H1 expired - getting married

My H1B expired less than a month ago. I'm getting married to a US citizen. Will this affect my ability to get a greencard? is there a process I need to follow before I get married?

... your H1 expired and you do not have any other visa, you're out of status.

If you're marrying an US citizen you'll be able to file for your GC through your spouse's status, which should help you overcome the shortfalls of out of status.
