  • H4 dependant Medical Expense

    Hi,

I am on H1B visa and my wife is on H4 dependant visa. In 2020 my wife had sudden medical issue resulting in me taking to her to emergencies couple of time.
This resulted in huge medical bill inspite of me having an insurance. Is there a way to reduce this bills. Kindly guide.

    Hello,
I'm sorry to hear about your wife's medical issues and the resulting bills. Here are a few steps you can take to potentially reduce the medical bills: mypoints
    1. Review the Bills: Carefully check all the charges for any errors or discrepancies.
    2. Negotiate with the Hospital: Contact the hospital's billing department to negotiate a lower amount or set up a payment plan.
    3. Apply for Financial Assistance: Many hospitals have financial assistance programs for patients in need. Check if you qualify for any discounts or aid.
    4. Use Health Savings Accounts (HSA): If you have an HSA, you can use the funds to pay for eligible medical expenses.
    5. Consult a Medical Billing Advocate: They can help you navigate the billing process and potentially reduce your costs.

It's also a good idea to consult with a tax advisor to see if you can claim any medical expenses on your taxes.

    Best Regards,

Thank you very much for this answer, I will use your advice. My husband and I are in a similar situation right now. Since I am overweight, I can't even afford a nutritionist. It's good that I read https://betterme.world/articles/7-day-bland-diet-menu/ which can help me. I need to find the willpower and start maintaining my weight, at least for now.

These situations are really stressful. We've been through something similar, and I recommend you first try to review bills themselves - sometimes there are errors in them. You can also try to negotiate a payment plan or ask for "financial aid". Another important thing - if your wife had any hereditary medical reasons, I recommend paying attention to Compass Bioinformatics. They have a powerful platform InheriNext®, which helps doctors and researchers analyze the genetic causes of diseases. This can help prove the presence of hereditary factors and review diagnoses or even bills.

Medical expenses for your dependents can be considered eligible if they are paid for necessary medical care, including doctor visits, hospital services, prescription medications, or other qualified treatments ADHD clinic Long Beach. To deduct these expenses on your tax return, the total out-of-pocket medical costs must exceed a certain percentage of your adjusted gross income (AGI), typically 7.5%. It's essential to keep thorough records, including receipts and billing statements, and ensure your dependent meets the IRS definition for a qualifying individual.
