Insurance before GC interview

Hi there,

I have a question and unsure where to start. Just recently I was browsing through this forum and discovered that I need insurance to be in this country, even before GC gets approved. I have been in New Jersey since September 2017 and entered with the k-1 visa. My husband and I got married in October 2017 and have recently gotten my EAD/AP combo card to start working. Where should I start my search for health insurance?

Hi there,

1.and 2. My husband is self employed. And I thought I have time to decide on what insurance before I have to make a decision. I was not aware of any penalty nor the ACA. I wasn?t aware of the mandatory enrollment in a health care plan upon submitting the AOS.

3. I technically do not need insurance now. But I don?t want to incur any more penalty If I do owe any right now.. I am supposedly to receive my green card interview letter soon. Should I wait until then? I have also gotten my SSN already. Is there any long term health plans I can/should look into?

Is health insurance absolutely necessary for GC application? Hubby is on Medicaid.

Health insurance is not required for applying for green card. However, it is required when the new immigrant starts living in the US.

Sorry not Medicaid but whatever the state medical insurance is

the state health insurance is Medicaid and as stated previously is not required to get the greencard. As for meeting the ACA requirements when you file taxes, Medicaid does.
