as a green card holder since 2018 (indian citizen), me(62) and spouse(59) were covered under 'nj family care' for health insurance.

we recd. a letter stating termination of our coverage from aug31,23.

i am travelling mum-jfk on sep08,23. from where can i BUY health insurance (from india or usa) before i land on usa soil?.

(travel insurance companies in india only sell health insurance if you are NOT visiting usa as lpr). if i am misinformed, please correct me.

i have heard people advising - skip a meal but you cannot afford not to have health insurance in usa.

You are able to find plans as a green card holder on the Marketplace that will provide coverage.

As a green card holder, you can apply for health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace at Healthcare.gov. Since your NJ Family Care coverage ended, you qualify for a special enrollment period. You can also consider short-term health insurance from U.S. providers like Pivot Health or UnitedHealthcare for temporary coverage. Indian travel insurance typically excludes coverage for LPRs traveling back to the U.S., but you can check with companies like Tata AIG or ICICI Lombard for any specific options. It’s important to secure coverage as soon as possible due to high healthcare costs in the U.S. Safe travels!
