  • Query reg child delivery in US for Indian parents

Me and husband are indian citizen. My Husband is currently working on H1B visa in US for an onsite assignment of IT Company. I am pregnant for around 3 months and staying in India. I am in dilemma if it is advantageous to deliver my baby in India or US. I read through various post but not clear about certain things:

    1. Me and my husband don’t wanna settle in US for long term. We had plan to stay there for 2-3 yrs n come back to India
    2. Does insurance provided by IT companies cover delivery cost. If not, how much is the delivery cost approx. in New Jersey state.
    3. I have heard that if kid to indian parents is born in US then automatically baby will get US citizenship. In case we want to take kid to India then every 180 days we have to get an approval from Indian government. After 7 yrs we can apply for kid’s dual citizenship. Is it true.
    4. Kid born in US will be treated as US citizen in India and school/college fees is huge in India. Is this correct?
    5. Apart from Kid’s good future what are the advantages of giving birth in US.
    6. Please let me know the disadvantage of giving birth in US
    7. Is dual citizenship allowed in India

Dual citizenship is not allowed by India.

If you are planning to stay in India, give birth in India and have Indian citizenship for your child. That will be much easier in long run. You will save a lot of headaches and money.

Don't think US will be great for him when he grows up. If it is, he can always come to the US one way or other, such as student visa, work visa, green card etc.

The one advantage of having your child in India is US citizenship for his/her future use if needed. It is indeed useful, but could lead to high costs in India, unless you plan on hiding his US citizenship for some time until he/she decides to go to the US (for which a US passport will be required). No dual citizenship is allowed, but people get around this (illegally).
