In main application form for passport renewal of minor through BLS-International USA, they are asking date when my child was last in India. the truth is that he first left India on 31-Jan-2010 and then my child went for a small vacation for 3 months and he came back around 15-DEC-2011
Hence date last in India should be the date of flying out in Dec 2011. Agreed on that!
However, there is a tricky question in main application form that says:
How long has applicant continuously resided abroad - One forum says: This should be the difference in the date you are filling your application form and what you filled in the field which said 'When was he/she in India. Hence the answer should be 1 year 11 months. However, my son went for a short pleasure trip to Canada with my wife in May 2012, hence the difference between May 2012 to now (Nov 2013) is 1 year 6 months, Hence should the answer to this question be 1 year 6 months instead?
So what should I write for "How long has applicant continuously resided abroad"
(1) Original date of leaving india which is 31-Jan-2010 to present (Nov 2013) which is 3 yr 10 months OR
(2) Date of last time in india (Dec 2011) to present which is 1 year 11 months OR
(3) Date of Canada trip (May 2012) to present which is 1 year 6 months?
Also note: a sample renewal form available on Immihelp disregards a temporary India trip and considers only period between leaving India to present which would be same as option (1) above. However this passport renewal form was an older version than the one currently in effect via BLS International.
