We live in Virginia and expecting a baby next month. Looks like its advisable to have the baby named before leaving the hospital so that "birth certificate" procedures will be initiated/taken care by the hospital authorities.
But we wanted to have the baby named from our "Guru" and this process is going to take a minimum of three to four weeks[after providing the Place and Date of birth]. So in this case - if we don't have a name before leaving the hospital - [Spoke to Virginia Vital Health Dept] we were told that initially baby will be named after father's last name and then will be "name changed" or "amended" with its original name.
My questions are:
1. Does anyone come across this situation of not having a baby named before leaving the hospital? If so what's the process followed after that [until getting birth certificate]?
2. In this case, is there any other way we can avoid the "name changed/amended"? [As the child have to keep repeating this "name change" information for the rest of the life where ever being asked]
P.S. I know these are state-specific laws and could vary with each state. Though any virginia-specific suggestions would help but still welcome any non-virginia based experiences also.
