Issue with Middle and Last Names

Hi,

I have faced this issue last week when I went to DMV to re-new my DL. When they tried to verify my name with SSN ofice, they say that my middle/last names are interchanged in my Legal Docs (H1 petition papers, visa stamp, I-94) and in SSN.

I have my middle name and last name as VENKATA and AKULA in SSN
But my I-94, visa stamp and petition papers have my surname as
AKULA VENKATA. So the DMV guys are reading my middle name as AKULA instead of VENKATA. They say that either I have to get my legal docs corrected or get my name changed in SSN.

Pls suggest what is the best approach. Is it possible to get my H1 papers corrected?
