  • LastName truncated in SSN, Unable to get DMV

    Hi,

My husband is facing this issue where the SSN offfice is unable to fit his last name in the SSN since it is very long. Instead they truncated it and now the DMV is refusing him license saying that the names dont match.

    His LastName contains 3 words.

    Passport-
    FirstName: ABC
    LastName: DEF GHI JKL

    Visa
    FirstName: ABC
    LastName: DEF GHI JKL

    Immigration
    FirstName: ABC
LastName: DEF GHIJKL (they combined the GHI and JKL since they had a space limitation )

    SSN
    FirstName: ABC
LastName: DEF GH (they truncated it leaving out JKL and GHI became GH)

Now DMV is saying they cannot verify the last name online since it does not match.
SSN office says they cant do anything because of the space limitation
Immigration says they cant do anything since they have to match passport and VISA.

Is there an solution for him to get the DL?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Officially change the name to a shorter name.

I know that takes and money, but that is the only long term solution to his ongoing issues everywhere.

We do intend to change it in the long run, but our stay in the US is most likely for about 6 months. It seems like by the time the paperwork comes thru, we would be leaving. Is there any way we could get the license meanwhile? It is extremely hard to commute otherwise, thats y we r keen on getting this fixed while we are here.
