Have applied to extend stay - what if no decision by departure date on I-94?

Recently I've applied to extend my stay in the USA (Form I 539) but I've just seen online that it's likely to take 2+ months to process, at which rate there won't be a decision until long after my currently valid I-94 has expired.

Am I allowed to remain in the USA until I receive the decision, or must I depart before my I-94 expires?

You can legally stay until you hear about the decision.
