  • Power of Attorney - Attestation in State before attestation in Consulate

    Hi,
I am planning to give Power of Attorney (POA) to my dad who lives in India. I am from the state of California.

From the Indian consulate website, I gather that "All power of attorney documents must be apostilled by the state government of the state/city of your residence."
I would like to know where this place is. Does anyone know? I live in the south bay area. I had been trying to get this information online and don't seem to be able to get it. I also emailed the consulate and haven't received any reply from them.

THis seems to be the starting point and am stuck here.
Anyone who is aware of this information, pls let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I found information on this and would like to share it with others who might need it.
Here is the procedure I was outlined for getting attestation on a power of attorney document from Indian consulate SF, CA
    1. Print the details of POA on a neat paper one side each.
    2. Sign it, attach photo.
    3. Get is notarized.
    4. Get it attested by the State government from the authentication dept 5. Get it attested by the Indian consulate.
I have not yet started this process and hence not sure how well this is going to work or how long this is going to take.

Am not a lawyer, so please be advised that this information is for reference only and by no means a legal advice.
