Hey Guys,
I am a long time reader of this forum but brand new to being an active member. Just a quick background- I am a Manufacturing engineer working for a large fortune 500 corporation. I am currently coming to the end of my first term of H1( exp:OCT 2013) and my employer has decided to initiate my GC process. I have a Master's degree and a Bachelors directly related to manufacturing. Since i have found a lot of useful information on this website,I thought it would be a good idea to get som personalized opinion. As I stated, my employer has given me the option to initiate my GC but I have a whole bunch of questions I want answered before signing on the dotted line. I have gone through all the threads and didnt exactly find an answer for my scenario.
My company strongle believes in performance based incentives and promote/move candidates around jobs on a frequent basis.High performers usually dont stay in a position for more than 2- 3 years. I have been on the high performers list for the last two years(they dont include you in the first year of employment) and now have been here for three years. I am currently in engineering but management sees me moving to a management role either withing the engineering organization or with another department. So here are my questions below.
1. The application allows for future employment. If I work with managers to identify the future position I will be in when the PERM process gets approved will that allow me to still move around as long as I am in the position when the PERM gets approved?
2. If I get promoted half way through the process, how much does it affect the process?
3. What are the scenarios that will allow me to move around without affecting my green card process?
4. Have any of you faced a similar situation? if so, what did you do?
I have a meeting with my company attourneys to go over the same thing but wanted to see if any of you have had a similar experience. Please share your thoughts. I know a lot of people in my company that are/were not citizens that move around frequently. Since management sees lot of potential in me, there is a chance they may stick me in the leadership development program( you shift to different roles over a period of 5 years). It almost seems to me that the Green Card process is a trap to keep immigrants stuck in one position for a long period of time. I am thinking real hard about applying if this is the case.HELP!
