H1B application after Labor approval or I-140 filing

My H1B expires in Apr 2015, and my labor was filed just a few days ago. If my labor gets approved after I leave the country (due to visa expiration), will the H1B filing be a new application or some kind of an extension? If it will be a new application, then will it also fall into the H1B cap bucket and undergo the random selection process? Any inputs will be appreciated.
