Can I travel outside of US after I began the Labor Certification (PERM) application?

Hi,

I have a multiple entry F-1 Student visa and I am on OPT and currently working. I want to go back to my country to visit my family and my F-1 visa is still valid until I come back. Can I file (PERM) application and then leave and come back to US? Or I have to wait until I come back then I file for PERM?
