    I am under h1 status working as an Actuary. I have requested my company for Green card process.My company also haven't processed Green card before and I am also very new to this GC process.It seems my company is thinking its a long term process.Can any one explain me about this process and what my company need to do, which will help me to explain my supervisor.Do I need to do any paperwork.

    They will need to put up advertisements for your position in the local newspapers and interview candidates. If they do not find a US citizen willing to take the job then they can file for PERM labor certification which will take 6-7 months. After that they need to file I-140 which will take another 3-4 months. Then they need to wait until the visa dates become available for filing I-485. Currently the wait time for EB3 category is 5 years. Once the EB3 is filed, it would take anywhere between 1-3 years to receive your green card. So total it would take around 9 years to get your green card if filed under EB3.

      How long is the wait time for EB2.

        If you are from India or China then under EB2 it would be one year less. for citizens of most other countries there is no wait.
