Can GC processing be started while one is still waiting for the H1 visa approval. I have a friend who has just got job offer in USA and he wants to get his green card at the earliest possible. His company has just filed for his H1 visa a few days back. But he can't wait for his green card and would like to start the process right away even before H1 approval. He has never visited USA anytime in his life - not as a tourist also. He is now waiting for his H1 approval.

GC Processing van be done at any time. While it is being processed however there are only very limited circumstances under which one can come to the US.
However an H1B Visa can be obtained while GC is being processed since it has dual intent. -

H1 has nothing to do with GC processing. Any company can decide to hire someone for a permenant position and begin to process for GC.
However it just makes your case hold more water if you are already working for them and now are offering you a permenant position ( Applying for a GC).Comment
