Can a company other than my employer apply for my Green Card?

Hello,
I have been working for company A for the past 3 years. Can company B apply for my green card while I continue to work for Company A? My friend is a senior director in Company B, and may be able to convince them to apply for my green card (if it is legal). I do not want to join company B yet, because they are a small company with unpredictable revenue at this time.
My present employer is a large company, but has a policy of not sponsoring green cards, even if I am willing to pay for it. What are my options other than finding another job.

What if the other company provides me with an offer letter?

Can the other company not apply for my green card with the intent of employing me in the future (perhaps by providing me with an offer now, but with the intent of hiring me after the Labor clearance is obtained?)

I am not sure why emigratetotheusa says No. My understanding is that any company can apply for a gc for future employment. Pl. check with a competant lawyer.
