  • Cancellation of Partially Used Schengen Visa to apply for new one.

I am an Indian National and presently studying in Italy with Schengen Study Visa issued by Italian Embassy India.

    It will expire in Feb-2014.

But recently I got a doctoral contract in France, So I want to take up that Job. But I could not apply for French Visa without cancelling the present Visa.

Is it possible to cancel the Italian Schengen Visa? If so how should I proceed and will it give any bad impression or leads to refusal of future visa application.

For my case just after cancellation I want to apply for French Visa. Please give any suggestion to resolve my problem.

Your D visa is still valid? Beacuse usually, you're issued a D visa to enter the Schengen country, and then you apply for a residence permit. Do you mean your residence permit is still valid (the card)? If so, don't worry about it. Just apply for the French visa. Did the French say that they won't issue it?

The problem with canceling the visa is that you probably need to have that done in India. If you want to go to India and do it, then that would be possible, though I don't know how one would go about asking the French to cancel it. It's not a Schengen visa if it's not a tourist visa, by the way. A study visa is a national visa, and does not involve Schengen (apart from the residence permit, which allows entry into the Schengen area).

      Thanks a Lot!

I was issued schengen student Visa by Italian Consulate in Mumbai for one year. I have applied for residence permit here but not yet received.
If I cancel the present one for example will it create any problem for future schengen visa application?
I have seen french consulate website that a person already possessing schengen visa cannot apply for another schengen visa.
Would you please elaborate the answer i could not understand it?

      Please help me.....
      Thanks

You are right! I checked my visa sticker. On that It was written that
        Valid for ITALIA
        Type of Visa D
        Valid from 28-02-2013 to 27-02-2014 365 Days.

        Remarks Studio/Universita (ART 66 (c) DLGS 71/11)

Please tell me, Is it necessary to cancel the visa or not?
        Thanks.........

Well, it's not a Schengen visa then. If you'll be applying for your visa in India, I would call or email them to ask directly. Remember to tell them you have a D visa, and not a Schengen visitor (C) visa. Based on what I know, it shouldn't be a problem to be issued with a French D visa, and I don't even think cancellation applies in this case. The visas are for 2 different countries and only apply to the respective territories.

Also, go to immigration in Italy and inquire. Maybe they can cancel your residence permit application, and give you something in writing saying you've withdrawn your request to stay in Italy.
