  • Query on multiple entry Schengen Visa

    Hello everyone!

Quick question regarding my multiple entry Schengen Visa.

    I am the holder of an Indian Passport currently working in the UK. I applied to go to Greece in April 2014 and was issued with a multiple entry Schengen Visa valid until November 2014. Following are the details from the visa sticker;

    Valid for: ETATS SCHENGEN
    From: 05.05.14 Until: 04.11.14
    Type of visa: C
    Number of entries: MULT
    Duration of stay: 45 DAYS
    Issued in: LONDON
    On: 15.04.14
    Number on passport: XYZ12345
    Surname, Name: ABCD, XYZ

I went to Greece for 5 days and returned to UK in May 2014. When I applied I did not intend to make a second trip to any country within the Schengen area. Since I have a multiple entry visa, I am now planning a trip to France (Paris) in August. Will that same visa be sufficient for my upcoming trip?

Are there any links/documents someone can provide me in case the immigration control staff deny me entry as the visa was issued by the Greek embassy. I like to go prepared just in case I am denied entry. I have emailed the French Embassy however havnt got any reply for over 2 weeks hence I am a bit desperate to get some advice on this. I am also not sure what the 45 day duration exactly means. Is it from 1st entry or a duration of stay for each entry. Hope someone can shed some light on this! Thank you in advance!

With a multiple entry visa you should be fine to visit France since:
      - With a Schengen visa you can enter via any member state, travel through any member state and exit through any member state aslong as your main destination (where you will spent the most ) is the country you applied for or if there is no clear main destination then the country of your first intended stay.
      - You have shown that Greece was your actual destination on your previous trip. So your application was legit. You may or may not head to Greece again. If you'd had to visit the country that issued the multiple entry visa every time you went to Europe that would kinda defeat the purpose of such a visa if you would be visiting different member states for different visits...
      - Just be sure you meet all the other requirements such as the trip being affordable, insurance etc. Besides you may always visit Greece after spending some time in France first.
      - Keep the maximum stay of 90 within the (rolling) 180 days in mind! On each individual day in the Schengen area, count 180 days back and make sure you do not exceed the 90 day limit!

If you wish to read the rules and guidelines, see PDFS here on the EU website:

        Dear petrohead,

I am curious to know if you travelled to France with a visa issued by the Greek embassy. I am in a similar situation with a multiple entry Schengen visa issued by the Portuguese embassy. I had traveled to Lisbon and returned to the UK and will be travlling to Germany this July. Will this be allowed?
        Any help will be appreciated.
