How to get a 12 month validity multiple entry Schengen tourist Visa?

I am an Indian citizen due to get a 12 month work permit for the UK in the next few weeks. What would be the best way to apply for a year long multiple entry Schengen tourist visa (if possible)? I plan to visit Europe multiple times during my stay in the UK. I write, blog and photograph at an amateur level but am an engineer by profession.

Would it be better to apply for my Schengen after my UK work permit comes through (assuming that the Schengen Visa authorities would notice it when looking at my request for a 12 month tourist Visa) or does it not matter?

Depends on how your time works out but I'd probably get the UK paperwork all finished first and then apply for a Schenge from your home country or UK. You can apply no earlier then 3 months in advance. In your application, explain your plans for frequent short visits and thus would like a multiple entry visa.
