Frankfurt Transit Visa if US visa expired

Hi,

My husband is currently in the US on a H1 Visa. His current visa stamping on the passport expires on 3rd Feb 2006. He has already obtained approval from
USCIS for extension on his H1 petition for the next 3 years. He will be going to India, transiting through Frankfurt via Air-India, on 18th Feb'06, to get a fresh H1 stamping on the passport.

Can you please let me know if he will need a prior transit visa for transiting through Frankfurt ?
