Andorra to activate new schengen visa

Hi,

My friend will be coming to France from South Africa in July with a tourist visa valid until november. She is currently applying for a student visa which would likely be valid from September only. She would like to avoid having to go back to her country to switch from her tourist visa to her new student visa in september. I have heard that Andorra is not part of Schengen and doesn't require any visa. Would it work for her if she goes there once her student visa could be activated, and leave Andorra to cross border and enter Schengen area to get her student stamped for activation?
