  • Germany Airport Transit Visa Question

    Hi,

I am on L1 visa and my wife is on L2 visa. Our visas already expired. We are on I-94 which is valid. We are going to back to India this month by Luftansa air lines. We have a layover time of aroun 2 hours at frankufurt airport. We are going to India for good, not coming back. In this case do I need to have airport transit visa for germany for the layover time at frankfurt ? I sent a mail to all the consulates asking whether I require transit visa. Every one relied back saying that I don't require transit visa expect Chicago consulate.
Did anyone travel to India in the recent past through Frankfurt and faced similar situation. please let me know whether we require transit visa or not ?

    Thanks,
    Satya

Yes, I think the new rule does not require transit visas for Germany. No wonder Lufthansa is making soo much profit. The whole transit visa thing is a scam. Wish they had more direct flights from the US to India.. not interested in paying $55 to change planes in Europe. Hoping that Jet Airways starts direct flights to the US soon. We should all boycott any airline that requires transit visas. Make that airline go under.

Leifbo**** - Did you ever wonder why people still travel by Air India after all the complaints about them? As an Indian, it still pains to advise anyone not to travel by Air India. It is not worth the trouble that you may encounter. Not sure why people don't boycott Air India. I guess if Air India goes under, the employees of Air India doesn't care much. Looks like their jobs are guaranteed for their life time. Its the tax payers in India who should care about whether Air India is making a profit or a loss.

True.. but private airlines in India like Jet Airways are trying hard to reach the US. And Im sure they will very soon. Its robbery to charge transit visa fees. Just to change planes in some country, not even getting out of the terminal. It would be soo good to have daily direct flights (14 hours) by Jet Air, Air Sahara.. to India. Board the aircraft today afternoon and reach there next morning. Rather than get off the plane in Germany, take my belt, shoes, clothes off before boarding the next flight. Not to mention the 2-3 days at the German consulate and $55 to get the transit visa.
