  • airport transit visa

I have a H1b extension approval document and my current h1b stamping on my passport expired. I found from the website that I need airport transit visa and my consulate is San francisco, but they are asking personal appearance for all visas on their website. Does anyone have this experience, do we need to go in person to san francisco just to apply for airport transit visa, or is it possible to apply by mail at any other consulate.
    Thanks in advance.

Which airline are you flying? e.g. Lufthansa does not need a transit visa. You may want to call the airline and check if they do need a transit visa for your case. Some websites do not provide up to date information so its better to call them. Next time you fly, ask about non-stop flights to India from the US. American Airlines, Continental, Air Sahara and Delta offer non-stop flights to India now. Im sure more airlines will be adding to the list soon.
