Hi,
Thank you for the info on this site and for your patience and help in advance.
Here's my situation:
I am an Indian studying in the US (F1 visa). I was invited by an Italian university to be a part of a collaborative research team for two months. My F1 visa recently expired so I could not apply for an Italian visa in the US. I came down the India for renewing my F1 visa here as well as getting the Italian (study) visa.
As it turns out, the Mumbai Italian Consulate informed me that as a student at a US university, I must obtain the Italian study visa from the US. So, I must travel back to the US after getting my F1 visa and apply there.
But, I'd rather save time and get a visa to Italy from here. The Italian university has told me that I could also get a tourist visa as I am not registered for any classes there nor am I getting paid explicitly (they are taking care of my accommodations).
My query is therefore regarding the application for a tourist visa to Italy. The application asks for my socioeconomic status in India where I am neither a student/dependent nor do I have any recent work history. I do have proof of available funds, my itinerary and a letter from the Italian university stating that I will be staying with them.
Is there anything I can do to help my Italian tourist visa application?
Thanks!
