Does Schengen visa suffice for travle to Swiss?

Would really appreciate any help

I would be flying into Zurich,Switzerland in Dec'2008. After I stay there for 4 days, I would be travelling to Venice, Italy for 2 days and then again travel back to Zurich to board my flight to USA.

What kind of visa will I need?
Would just the Schengen Visa suffice for both Italy and Swiss? If yes, then what type of Shengen visa will I need?
Could you tell me what is the procedure of applying for the visa?
