  • Transit Visa

I am american citizen. My wife lived in Kosovo. She joined me to USA now with a K-3 Visa (Fiance) visa. She has her Kosovo passport with American visa attached to it. She came here fine and lives with me. Now, she has emergency and needs to go to Kosovo. I got her a ticket that is from Usa to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Slovenia, Slovenia to Kosovo.

Now my question is since she is not American citizen and with no green card, does she need any kind of transit visa or anything if all she wants to do is get to her connecting flight in germany and slovenia. Her connecting flights are only 50 minutes apart.

      Transit visa

Depends on the airport. Most large, primary airports do not require you to go through customs in order to change planes. If you are required to go through customs, then you will need to look into whether you are required to obtain a visa. If you do not have to go through customs, then you do not need a transit visa.

While I cannot say with 100% certainty, I believe Frankfurt does not require plane-changers to go through customs. Had this issue last year while my wife and I were going to Romania. She's from eastern europe so she needs a visa almost wherever we go. We changed planes in Madrid and the connecting flight was in the same terminal as our inbound flight so everything was ok.

I asked whether she would need a transit visa if the connecting flight was not in the same terminal. Evidently, this was the first time that question had ever been asked to those I spoke with (Embassy of Spain in the USA, the airline) because no one had a clue.
