Do I need a Schengen Visa for a connecting flight? (Details given)

I'm a Pakistani passport holder with a valid Canadian study permit. Some of the the websites state that travellers with valid Canadian resident permits don't need the Schengen visa.

Does holding a valid study permit count as being a resident? I'm pretty sure it counts for being a temporary resident, but if it doesn't count as being a resident..will I still need a visa for my 4-hour stopover in Frankfurt?

Any feedback is appreciated.
(p.s. - I'm flying from Dubai to Toronto via Frankfurt)
