  • Schengen Transit Visa Problem

    hello
I am Belarus citizen and permanent resident in the US
    I just arrived to Belarus
Prior to departure I enquired the belorussian authorities whether I needed a transit visa during my trip. My itinerary is Minneapolis-Amsterdam-Prague-Minsk. I was told that I don't need the transit visa as long as I never leave the airport at the transiting countries.
On my way to Belarus I had passport control in US and Amsterdam. However, while switching the terminals between flights in Prague I was stopped by Czech authoroties who asked for my Schengen Transit visa. It was a big surprise for me and a shock, and it happened 30 minutes before my flight from Prague to Minsk. I never left the premices of the Prague airport. I explained what I was told by the Belarus authorities. The passport control agent called for the chief who probably understood my genuine shock, and he let me through. However, the chief border guard said that I might get into the same problem on my way back and might not be so lucky.
Now I am in Belarus. I called Czech embassy and asked them about Schengen visa, they say it will take anywhere from 7 to 30 days. My flight is in 10 days. I am worried that it will not be enough time for Czech to process my application.
Can I search around and try another embassy of other country participating in the Schengen treaty?
Is there a difference in processing time between Schengen Type A Transit visa(allows you through the international zone of a Schengen airport without entering the Schengen territory) and other types of Schengen Visas?
Thank you very much in advance
