Italy visit visa (from airport)

Hi,

I am an Egyptian, studying in the UK (I have a valid UK student Visa). I might be travelling to Egypt this Christmas using Italia Airlines, the trip is London-Rome then Rome-Cairo! I will transit in Rome for about 12 hours, so I was wondering if its possible to get a visa from the airport to visit the city of Rome in these 12 hours? And how can I get it, taking I am Egyptian (non-EU)....???
