Passport older than 10 years

I am a Green card holder in US with an Indian Passport issued in 1997 valid until 2017. According to requirements for Schengen visa, the passport cannot be older than 10 years. Anyone have experience with trying for visa with an old passport? My trip is in a month and India embassy says renewing passport can take 6-8 weeks in most cases.

Any advise highly appreciated.

In that case, your only option is to get the new passport and go there after you get it.

Urgent help 20 yr valid passport

Hi immihelp,

I too have a passport which was issued in 1997 for 20 yrs.
1) Can I apply for Spanish tourist visa using my current passport?
2) Should I apply for a new passport even if I've travelled to other countries and my passport is still very much valid?

Please help.
