Long term visa after a tourist visa

I am a student in France. There was a problem with my resident permit renewal. It was expired and I was out of EU. I got a Swiss schengen visa to get back to France and fix it. Now my resident permit has been renewed, but I don't know if I have to leave Schengen are before my tourist visa expires or not and if I leave it can I come back right away with my French long term resident permit or should I be outside the Schengen area for 3 months?
I really need your help. Because I am studying and I cannot be away for 3 months.
