  • Europe trip on way back to India

    Hi,

I am currently in the San Francisco bay area on a H-1B visa, but I'm relocating back to India permanently because I've been offered a job in India. I want to do a Western Europe trip before I move back, so I plan to visit several Schengen countries before I go back to India ( so my itinerary will be NYC -> Frankfurt -> Barcelona -> Amsterdam -> Prague -> Frankfurt -> Bangalore).

My last at day at work in the US will be March 23rd and I will leave the US on the 24th. So when I arrive in Europe, my H-1 status will not be valid, however when I apply for my Schengen visa in the next few days my H-1 status will BE valid. Given this situation, my questions are:
    1. Will I be able to apply at the San Francisco German consulate, given this status ? I ask because technically I qualify to apply from the San Francisco German consulate as my H-1B is still valid at the time of application, but in principle I will not have my H-1B when I'm travelling in Europe.
    2. I have a letter from my employer which states my annual salary, position, hire date and designation. However, this letter was issued in September 2010. Will I be able to use this letter or will they request a more recent reference letter ? or Will the consulate request that my current US employer state my continuing status as an employee ?
    3. I also have an offer letter from my new employer which I can present to the consular officer to prove that I am in fact moving back to India permanently. Should I present this letter ?

Do any of the forum members know of anyone who have had to go through a similar itinerary ?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Karthik.

    similar situation

    Hi,

I am in a similar situation. I am planning to go to France on my way to India and once there I will be working from my employers India office. Can you please let me know if you got the visa?

    Thanks
    Rahul
