Can F-2 Visa travel to the US before F-1?

Hi all,

I currently study in the United States on an F-1 visa. My wife is on F-2 visa an we both are going back to our country over the summer. My wife wants to go back to US with her family before me, around July 15 where as I will go back August 15.

I was wondering if any of you could provide me with their experience how they managed to attract the attention of a US company.
Would it be promising to send in my resume by mail? What is generally speaking a good place to start contacting companies willing to sponsor H1B visas?

I'm a M.Tech Student of Mechatronics Engineering, and have done my B.E. in Electronics and Telecommunication.

I want to pursue a PhD in Robotics or more preferably in Image Processing.
I'm still in my M.tech programme, and would finish it in June 13.
