Expired H1 and Green Card

My current H1B visa in US is valid only up to April 2012. My green card processing has just been initiated and it may take at least 3-4 months to file my GC. My H1 is expired and applied for H1 Extension well before, no receipt received yet. My company if following it up with USCIS.
Can i travel out of US with expired I94 and expired H1 Visa. Is there going to be a problem at the airport while leaving ?

Can anyone please inform when I can file new H1. My Old H1 expires today and I completed my 6 years in US. My I-94 is for 10 more days, so I will move out within 4 days from here. I just wanted to know how soon can I come back.
