Applying for UK Tourist Visa with 5 months of Passport Validity.

My current Indian passport is going to expire in 5 months. I am planning to travel to UK for a week to meet my wife. Do I need a renew my Indian Passport before I apply for UK Visa ? Can I apply for UK Visa with th current passport and later renew my passport ?
