Hi all,
A few weeks ago, my cousin filled out the DS-160 online for applying for his B2 visit visa for the USA, from Karachi. He is currently a student in college and is 17 years old. His purpose for visiting the United States was to attend my graduation ceremony scheduled in June 2016. (On a side note, I live here with my family holding a green card.)
He went to the interview this morning and the lady asked him a few questions:
1. Why are you going to the USA? He said he is going to attend my graduation scheduled for June 16.
She then asked for sponsor documents which he showed to her.
2. How long will you be staying? 2-3 weeks
3. Have you been to the USA before? No
4. Who will you be going with? He said he will be going with his grandmother, who already has a b2 visa valid for 5 years
5. The lady asked can you show your grandmother's passport? My cousin did not have the passport to show at the time.
6. Who is paying for your trip? He said my cousin's mother (his aunt) will be paying for his expenses.
To this she then asked, can you show any bank statements? He replied that he does not have them. (This could have been part of the reason why, I believe)
After that the lady told him to please wait. After a few minutes she replied saying I am sorry you have been denied under Section 214B.
I know that Section 214B means that he did not prove ties to his home country, however, he did say that he is a student and has all family here in Karachi including his parents and siblings.
Can anyone advise me why his visa was rejected?
Thank you!
