  • Am I eligible to apply for citizenship?

I am a permanent resident since August 2005. I used to take reentry permits in order to complete my undergraduate education in my home country. In the last 5 years I have two trips that lasted longer than 6 months. I was out from 23 March 2010 - 23 Jan 2012 for 671 days (I took a travel permit before leaving). I came back to US for 15 days and went back to my home country again from 06 Feb 2012 - 09 Dec 2012. After that I have been living here continuously and did not take any trips longer than 6 months. Am I eligible to apply under the 4 year 1 day rule on 10 Dec 2016?

    Hello,

Once upon a time, I was in the same situation. I had taken an online eligibility quiz at that time and i had applied. Now i became a U.S. Citizen,
I think you're eligible to apply for U.S. Citizenship. If you are meeting the below mentioned Eligibility requirement, then you are absolutely eligible to apply under the 4 years 1 day rule.

    1. You have to be a Green Card Holder at least for 4 years and 9 months
    2. You should currently hold a Green Card which is at least valid for the next 6 months
    3. You must have to be physically present in the U.S. for at least 30 of the last 60 months
    4. You must have to live in the same state for at least 3 months
