  • Travelling to Europe with H1-b status

    Dear friends,

I am currently on my H1-B status which is not yet stamped. I have to make a trip to Belgium on bussiness.
I was wondering can i get my H1 stamped in Belgium while i am there or do i have to get it in India/Canada?
AM i eligible to get a Schengen visa?

Please do reply i have to make this trip within a month or so.

    Thanks
    Sharmila

    "Where to apply?

Generally speaking, applicants for temporary working visas should apply at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate having jurisdiction over their place of permanent residence. Belgian nationals and residents of Belgium may apply in Brussels.

Although applicants for temporary working visas are free to apply at any U.S. consular office abroad, there is no absolute guarantee that their visa application will be automatically accepted."

          Schengen visa

Yes you can apply for an get a Schengen visa on H1B for travel to any of these European countries. DO note this is not valid for UK.

I've known people to get the visa from the French consulate where the lines are shorter and visa is given immediately. This is true for those flying directly to other Schengen countries like Italy.

Of course you do need to get all the paper work with you.

          Good luck.
